A debut novel that "leaves few eyes dry" wins the prize as Book of the Year. Readers have voted Lisa Ridzén's novel "The Cranes Fly South" as the winner, in competition with, among others, Andrev Walden's "Damn Guys".
"A captivating debut that evokes strong emotions seems to be the way to readers' hearts, as it is again this year that such a book stands as the winner when readers have had their say", says Petra Nuhma, marketing manager at Bonnier's book clubs, which awards the prize.
"The Cranes Fly South" is about an old man's struggle to maintain control over his life. Lisa Ridzén was inspired to write the book by notes made by home care services that she found in her grandfather's workshop after his death.
Ridzén received the prize, which, in addition to the honor, consists of a specially designed statuette, at the Book Fair in Gothenburg.
