The government and the opposition must cooperate to combat serious crime, writes the Chairman of the Police Union, Katharina von Sydow, and the former SÄPO chief, Klas Friberg, on Aftonbladet debate.

The preventive work has been neglected for too long and Sweden is lagging behind, they believe. They issue a call to the government and the country's municipalities:

Invest in schools and meaningful activities for children, invest in social services and more outreach workers, social secretaries, and youth psychologists. And involve the business community and civil society to get more people into jobs and internships to create confidence in the future.

"With two years left until the next election, it's high time to put party-political posturing aside and make wise joint decisions that can save lives. What's the alternative?", write Sydow and Friberg.
