The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Friday.
Trump has said that he will ensure that Russia ends its war of aggression against Ukraine.
"Both sides will be able to gather and negotiate an agreement that puts an end to the violence and paves the way for prosperity", Trump writes about the conversation on his platform Truth Social.
Trump has not elaborated on how he will persuade Russia's President Vladimir Putin to withdraw his forces and simultaneously reach an agreement that Ukraine can accept.
"We agreed with President Trump to discuss at a personal meeting which measures can make peace fair and truly lasting", Zelenskyj writes in a statement on social media.
A possible Trump victory in the presidential election in November has raised concerns among allies in Europe about the US's continued support for Ukraine.
