Two men, suspected of planning a terrorist attack against the parliament in Stockholm, have been prosecuted in Germany. Federal prosecutors filed the charges on August 12 to the regional court in Jena, which will decide whether and when the case goes to trial, reports AP.

The two defendants planned to shoot police officers and other people at the parliament building in Stockholm, according to the prosecutors. They repeatedly tried to obtain weapons, but failed.

The men were arrested in Gera in eastern Germany and have been detained since spring.

The men, who are Afghan citizens, are suspected of having ties to a branch of the terrorist group IS and are said to have planned the attack as revenge for Quran burnings in Sweden.
