Ukraine confirms that the country's forces have withdrawn from parts of the strategically important city of Tchasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that the country's forces had taken control of a district in Tchasiv Yar, which is located near the previously heavily contested Bachmut.

Ukraine's withdrawal was confirmed on Thursday by a Ukrainian military spokesperson on state TV.

The command decided to withdraw to better protected and prepared positions, he says.

During the night to Thursday, two people were killed in Russian attacks on the southern Zaporizhzhia region, according to Governor Ivan Fedorov. One more person was injured.

According to Fedorov, Russia has carried out 391 attacks on ten locations in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

Russia claims to have – in violation of international law – annexed Zaporizhzhia, but does not fully control the region.

On Wednesday, Russia accused Ukraine of attacking the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with drones. Eight people and a power plant are said to have been injured.
