The Ukrainian security service SBU announces that it has arrested several individuals who allegedly planned to occupy the country's parliament and overthrow the government.
The group allegedly attempted to "provoke" unrest by spreading false information through local news channels to incite peaceful demonstrators. They would then exploit the resulting turmoil to occupy the parliament and overthrow the government.
The leader is, according to SBU, a man previously known for "anti-Ukrainian" actions over nearly ten years. This is reported by the newspaper Kyiv Independent.
Four Ukrainian citizens are suspected of being involved in the events, and at least two of them, according to The New York Times, have been arrested, suspected of acting with the support of Russia. SBU has found weapons and ammunition during house searches of the arrested individuals, the security service reports.
In May, SBU announced that it had uncovered a network planning to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelenskyj and other individuals in the "country's highest military and political leadership".
