Moscow announces that Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday in Russia.
The announcement of a meeting between Putin and Guterres comes from Kremlin official Yuri Ushakov, who says the two will meet in connection with the Brics meeting in the city of Kazan.
The two have previously met at the Kremlin in April 2022, weeks after Russian forces invaded Ukraine. Guterres then advocated for an immediate ceasefire.
After a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Guterres stated that the conversation had been "frank".
It is clear that there are two completely different opinions about what is happening in Ukraine, said the UN chief then.
The meeting on Thursday takes place in connection with the so-called Brics countries gathering under Russian chairmanship. In addition to the host country, China, Brazil, India, and South Africa are part of the group's inner circle. Several countries have requested to join or have been granted membership in an expanded Brics group. Among them are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran.
