A new staff that will lead NATO's naval units in the Baltic Sea region is being inaugurated on Monday in Rostock, Germany.
The staff will be led by Germany in cooperation with personnel from eleven other countries, including the alliance's newest members Sweden and Finland.
This region has become increasingly important against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian aggression in our immediate vicinity, says Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during Monday's opening ceremony, according to AFP.
About 180 people will work at the command staff. Sweden is contributing nine officers, according to the Swedish Armed Forces.
