A previously unknown piece of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has been found in Leipzig, Germany, reports Der Spiegel. It is a 12-minute long composition, "Serenate ex C", which is believed to have been written by Mozart during his late teenage years.
The notes were found in the papers left behind by collector Carl Ferdinand Becker, which were donated to the music department of Leipzig's municipal library. The notes are a copy or transcript of the original, which is considered lost.
The discovery has been presented by the International Mozart Foundation in Salzburg, and the piece will be performed in its entirety at the opera house in Leipzig on Saturday, September 21.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, then part of the German-Roman Empire, in 1756. He became one of the world's most renowned composers and died in 1791, at the age of 35.
