It was double wins for Sarah Sjöström in the final stage of Mare Nostrum. But her success was preceded by problems in the pool.

Semifinals in Monaco had to be cancelled on Sunday when the water in the pool became murky, according to Dagens Nyheter.

The reason was a pump that lacked electricity and could not clean the water. The problem was that the swimmers could not see the lines at the bottom to know how close they were to the wall, the newspaper wrote.

The competitions could start again at 6 pm. Then it was a direct final for Sarah Sjöström, who competed in the 50-meter freestyle and butterfly.

And it was double wins for Sjöström. First in the 50-meter butterfly with the impressive time 24.95, which gave the 30-year-old a clear win.

Half an hour later, it was time again, in the Olympic distance 50 meters free. Then Sjöström's winning time was 23.84, which is the second fastest time of the year. Even the fastest time of the year was set by Sjöström.

At both distances, familiar names were found on the second places. In the 50-meter butterfly, Louise Hansson was second fastest with a time of 26.16 – just three hundredths of a second ahead of Dutch Tessa Giele.

In the 50-meter free, it was Michelle Coleman who took second place with a time of 24.48, which is her fifth best time in her career.

The competition is part of the Mare Nostrum tour and is the last of three stages.
