Russian forces are trying to push back the Ukrainian forces that have occupied the Russian border region of Kursk for a month, says Zelenskyj at a press conference according to AFP and Ukrainian media.
The Russians have launched counter-offensive measures, which are in line with our Ukrainian plan, says the Ukrainian president, without going into detail about the scope of the attacks.
"Fluid" situation
Russian forces have launched several counter-attacks in Kursk, writes the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report on the latest developments. Russia has then regained control over several smaller communities in the western part of the occupied area.
The scale, scope, and prospects of the Russian counter-attacks in Kursk oblast on September 11 are unclear, and the situation remains fluid, ISW wrote in the report, which was released early on Thursday morning Swedish time.
Russian victory cries
Regime-loyal military war commentators, as well as several more independent channels on the Ukrainian side, reported on Wednesday evening that Russian forces had launched some form of counter-offensive, retaken several small communities, and managed to transport military vehicles across the Sejm River despite Ukraine having bombed the bridges over it.
Russia's military announced on Thursday afternoon that it had taken control of a total of ten communities in Kursk over the past two days. The Defense Department in Moscow, which only provides positive reports on its own military's actions, describes it as Ukraine having failed with several attack attempts and suffered heavy losses.
