85 people have been arrested and over 6,400 stolen items have been found during the eighth annual edition of Europol and Interpol's operation against art trafficking, codenamed "Pandora".
Several thousand airport and border controls, auction houses, museums, and private homes were searched in the operation, writes Europol in a press release. 25 countries participated in the cooperation, led by Spain.
Among the most spectacular finds were eleven items valued at over 60 million euros. One criminal case involved money laundering and illegal smuggling of archaeological gold artifacts from the Scythian era (between around 700 years before Christ to 200 years after Christ) that were stolen in Ukraine and smuggled to Spain.
