Emergency centers in the United Kingdom will be reinforced by experts on domestic violence from next year. The Home Office in London is presenting the pilot project as part of "Raneem's law" – which places greater responsibility on the police to act on suspicion of violence in close relationships.

22-year-old Raneem Oudeh from Solihull outside Birmingham called the British emergency number 999 on several occasions to get help to escape her violent husband, whom she had left. One evening in August 2018, she called the emergency center four times, and while the last call was still ongoing, she and her mother were stabbed to death by the man.

The man is serving a long prison sentence. An investigation found that the police's actions clearly contributed to the murders being able to take place.

The United Kingdom's new Labour government has made a promise to halve violence against women and girls over the next ten years.
