Olympic gold medalist and boxer Imane Khelif will act as Algeria's flag bearer during the closing ceremony in Paris.
Khelif has been one of the most talked-about Olympic participants. According to the International Boxing Federation's gender test, she has x- and y-chromosomes, which most men have, and may therefore have higher testosterone levels.
These unconfirmed reports have led to Khelif receiving a lot of hate, and some have demanded that she not be allowed to compete against other women.
Despite everything that has been going on outside of sports, the 25-year-old took Olympic gold in the 66-kilo class.
Now Khelif also gets the honor of carrying Algeria's flag at tonight's closing ceremony in Paris, writes Ritzau, citing German dpa.
Taiwan's boxer Lin Yu Ting has also been subjected to a storm of criticism for the same reasons as Khelif. And Lin will also act as flag bearer at the closing ceremony, carrying Taiwan's flag.
The closing ceremony takes place at Stade de France at 21.00.
