Fifth at half-way point – then Melina Andersson produced an impressive finish to the European Championship final on K1 1,000 metres.
The canoeist overtook both one and two opponents and took European Championship bronze in Szeged, Hungary.
The championship medal is Andersson's second individual sprint medal.
The 24-year-old has been selected for the Summer Olympics and in Paris it's the K1 500 metres that counts. Andersson can achieve further success in Hungary, as she is in the final on Saturday, just on the Olympic distance.
