It got chaotic in the OS premiere between Argentina and Morocco.

Now Argentina has submitted a formal complaint – at the same time as players and leaders are furious.

Argentina equalized to 2–2 in the 106th minute and afterwards scandalous scenes erupted. Several people stormed the pitch and some kind of firecracker was thrown at the Argentine players who had to protect themselves.

Something that made the Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg pause the match.

Almost two hours later, the match was resumed in front of empty stands – and then came the message that the equalizing goal had been ruled out for offside. Morocco won the match 2–1.

Now the Argentine Football Association announces that they have submitted a complaint to the International Football Association's (Fifa) disciplinary committee. "It is absolutely necessary to guarantee safety", they write in a statement on their website.

Argentina's national team captain Javier Mascherano called the match "the biggest circus I've seen in my life", according to Marca.

One of the team's overage players, defensive veteran Nicolas Otamendi, raged on X where he wrote that he felt "angry and helpless".
