Beyoncé stops Trump from using song

Donald Trump's presidential election campaign will have to do without Beyoncé's song "Freedom" after the artist blocked the use of the song, reports The Guardian.

Donald Trump has had problems with artists who do not want him to use their music. For example, Adele, Rolling Stones, and earlier in August, Isaac Hayes' family filed a lawsuit after Trump's campaign used the Hayes-written song "Hold on, I'm comin'".

Beyoncé's "Freedom" is the main song in Trump's opponent Kamala Harris' campaign, but it recently appeared in a campaign video for Donald Trump on social media. The use has now been disputed by Beyoncé's record label and publisher, and the video has been taken down from Trump's campaign accounts.

Kamala Harris' running mate for the vice presidential post, Tim Walz, recently left the stage at the party convention in Chicago to the tune of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the free world". A song choice that, according to the Democrats, was approved by Young and perhaps a jab at the former president.

Trump used the song at public appearances between 2015 and 2020, which prompted Neil Young to write an angry open protest letter. Later, Young also filed a lawsuit and wrote that he could not "allow my music to be used as a 'theme song' for a divisive, un-American campaign of ignorance and hate". Young later dropped his lawsuit.
