"Bitter disappointment for all fans in Austria"

A planned terrorist attack against Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna has been stopped and the three concerts in the city have been cancelled. Now fans around the world are reacting.

Petra Huisman, who runs the Malmö-based Taylor Swift fan club "Ready for it", expresses sorrow over the incident. At the same time, she believes that fans understand the situation and are encouraging each other.

The concerts have been and are a "safe space" for many where they can be themselves. It's terrible that an attack is planned against such a place, she says to TT.

Huisman has seen several concerts from Taylor Swift's world tour "The eras tour", and plans to attend the upcoming London shows next week. She is closely following the development.

Swifties are now giving tips on what to think about if you're going to the remaining concerts, she says.

The Federal Chancellor Speaks Out

Austria's Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer writes on social media X that the cancelled Taylor Swift concert "is a bitter disappointment for all fans in Austria". But among fans, emotions seem to be mixed: gratitude that the suspected terror plans have been foiled, but also disappointment over not getting to see their idol.

Kardelen Kocakcigil had traveled from Toronto to Vienna solely for the concert and to meet other Swifties. Now her friends have cancelled their trips due to security concerns.

This trip turned from something I've been looking forward to for over a year to a pointless, expensive trip, she says to CNN.

Sorrow and Disappointment on Social Media

On social media, people are also expressing sorrow and disappointment over the terror threat against the concerts.

"It doesn't matter which artist or arena it concerns, everyone should be able to enjoy live music together, without risking being killed", writes a user.

Taylor Swift told in 2019 about her fear of performing live after the IS attack on Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester in 2017, where 22 people were killed, and the mass shooting at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, where 64 people were killed, writes Billboard.

After the bombing of Manchester Arena and the shooting in Las Vegas, I was terrified of touring because I didn't know how we would keep three million fans safe over seven months. An enormous amount of planning, costs, and efforts were put into keeping my fans safe, she said then.
