After the Iranian Attack: Strong Protest Expressed

In an Iranian special operation, a Swedish company was hacked and thousands of SMS about avenging Koran burnings were sent out. I'm unfortunately not that surprised, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) about the IT attack.

The purpose of the attack, which Iran was behind via the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, was to cause division and polarization during a sensitive time in Sweden when Koran burnings had sparked protests and riots outside Sweden's borders, according to the Security Service.

It confirms the image we have, unfortunately, had for quite some time of Iran being willing to do things against not only Sweden, but also other countries in a way that is completely unacceptable. I'm unfortunately not that surprised, says Ulf Kristersson about the IT attack.

The Security Service has identified a handful of individuals behind the attack, but since they are in Iran and are considered impossible to prosecute, the preliminary investigation has been dropped. The investigation's conclusions became known on Tuesday, and the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that they had summoned Iran's chargé d'affaires, the top diplomat at the embassy in Stockholm.

We have expressed a very, very strong protest to the Iranian chargé d'affaires in Stockholm, says Ulf Kristersson.
