A police report last summer showed that several HVB homes are run by organized and family-based crime. Now, the government is giving the Inspectorate for Health and Social Care (Ivo) the task of strengthening supervision of support homes and HVB homes.

She emphasizes that it's about the care of children who have been taken into care by society. Then, there can be no doubts that the operation should be conducted with high quality.
The task includes working with the Police Authority and the Economic Crime Authority to improve cooperation on supervision. For this, Ivo will be able to use 6 million kronor in addition to the 17 million kronor already allocated for supervision in 2024. The allocation for 2025 will be 28 million kronor, and then a nationwide owner and management review will be conducted.

With this significant addition, I expect the agency to go through every single HVB home, she says.
If Ivo identifies operations with criminal connections, there is a risk of a shortage of HVB homes and support homes. But Waltersson Grönvall believes this can be solved by finding alternative placements in collaboration with the municipalities.
