At least 17 people have been killed, including several children, in an Israeli robot attack on a school building in Nuseirat in central Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities.
More than 40 are reported to be injured. According to reports, the school was being used as a refuge for Palestinians on the run.
Another Israeli attack is reported from Maghazi in central Gaza Strip.
Burned-out truck
Meanwhile, the situation in northern Gaza is deteriorating. In recent times, Israel has besieged large parts of the area and repeatedly attacked, among other places, Beit Lahia and Jabalia. Since the siege began on October 5, at least 770 Palestinians have been killed in the area, according to Gaza's civil defense on Thursday.
Now, the civil defense is warning that the situation is unsustainable.
We cannot provide humanitarian services to citizens in the northern governorate of Gaza Strip due to threats from Israeli occupation forces, who have threatened to kill and bomb our teams if they stay in Jabalia, says spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.
Rescue workers have been targeted on several occasions, according to Bassal. According to Bassal, Israeli forces have, among other things, destroyed the civil defense's only vehicle in the area.
Accused of genocide
The Israeli military announces that operations in the Jabalia area will continue and that dozens of "terrorists have been eliminated".
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have again been forced to flee, including Raghib Hamuda, who made his way to Gaza City after Israel called for the evacuation of the school where his family had sought shelter.
The military used bulldozers to destroy the school after evacuating all refugees, he tells AFP.
On Thursday, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas claims that Israel intends to "empty" Gaza Strip of Palestinians, especially in the northern parts. In a speech at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, he accuses Israel of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and using starvation as a weapon.
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza are expected to resume "in the coming days". During his visit to Qatar on Thursday, he announces $135 million, equivalent to approximately 1.4 billion kronor, in support of the Palestinians.
