It was in March that the Italian world number one in tennis, Jannik Sinner, showed a positive doping test on two occasions. Sinner's explanation – that he had unknowingly ingested the banned steroid clostebol through a massage – was accepted by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which cleared him.

However, not everyone is pleased with the decision. Nick Kyrgios – who is expected to make a comeback this week after a period of injury absence – spoke out on X. After ITIA communicated its decision, he wrote:

"Ridiculous. Regardless of whether it was unintentional or planned. If you test positive twice with a banned substance, you should be suspended for two years. Your performance improved. Massage cream... Of course."

In a statement on social media, Sinner has commented on the ITIA's decision.

"I now want to put this challenging and deeply unhappy time behind me. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that I comply with ITIA's anti-doping program and I have a team around me that is meticulous."
