Malmö has made a dream start in the Champions League qualifying round.

At home against Klaksvik, they won 4–1.

I think we played a really good match, says Malmö's Isaac Kiese Thelin.

Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands was last season's big sensation in European football. They knocked out, among others, Häcken in the Champions League qualifying round and subsequently qualified for the group stage in the Conference League.

But for the reigning Swedish champions Malmö, last year's sensation team was a piece of cake.

A good first match, we scored four goals. I think we played a really good match. There were bids for more, but four goals are good, says Kiese Thelin to MFF Play.

Malmö took command directly in the match, which was the first in the second qualifying round. Erik Botheim cleared the way for Lasse Berg Johnsen, who thundered in 1–0 from distance in the 21st minute. Before the half-time whistle, Hugo Bolin had managed to poke in 2–0 and Berg Johnsen had pushed in another long-range shot to 3–0.

Klaksvik reduced the score in the second half. Árni Frederiksberg – one of the main actors in last season's European saga – pushed in a volley to 3–1.

But it was Malmö who had the final say. Søren Rieks kept himself forward and set 4–1.

A goal that became the last of the match. The return match will be played on the Faroe Islands in a week.

We'll just continue like this in the next match, notes Kiese Thelin.

If Malmö advances from the double meeting, the winner of the meeting between Greek Paok Thessaloniki and Borac Banja Luka from Bosnia-Herzegovina awaits.
