Where are we going to go now?

Abdullah Khammash is one of the thousands of Palestinians who have once again been forced to flee their latest refuge in Gaza City due to the fighting.

With carts pulled by donkeys, bicycles, or on foot, thousands of Palestinians have fled Gaza City on Monday, after Israel issued a third evacuation order from the city where intense fighting is ongoing.

Civilians have now been ordered to leave most areas of Gaza Strip's largest city, where thousands of families had sought shelter from fighting in the rest of the strip.

Hundreds of thousands affected

Abdullah Khammash left his latest temporary home at three o'clock in the morning. With fighter jets and attack drones providing backup, Israeli tanks rolled into the city center, while a spokesperson for the Israeli military ordered residents in the areas of Sabra, Rimal, Tal al-Hawa, and al-Daraj to flee to "humanitarian zones".

Similar appeals were made last week to residents in Khan Yunis and Rafah, in the southern parts of the strip, which according to the UN has affected 250,000 people.

Even hospitals have been forced to close. According to Israel's military, the operations, which were stepped up in the city about two weeks ago, are being carried out following intelligence indicating that terrorist groups Islamic Jihad and Hamas are operating from there.

"Just bury us"

For Gaza resident Muhammad Bisan, it has led to "an indescribable night".

Airplanes and artillery are bombing, and drones are shooting from all directions, and we don't know where to flee, to the right or left, he says to AFP.

Khammash, whose family has been sleeping on the streets, is frustrated that the military "tells us to leave one area and go to another, and then comes there".

Only God knows what will happen now. Just bury us alive and put an end to it all, he says to the news agency.
