The conflict between Israel and Hizbollah is escalating with threats of "full-scale war" and a ready plan for an Israeli offensive in Lebanon.

The Iran-backed Shia militia Hizbollah has published a nine-minute clip showing drone footage taken over the Israeli port city of Haifa.

The clip has not been verified by independent parties, but is said to show both civilian and military Israeli infrastructure.

Shortly afterwards, Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz issued a threat.

"We are very close to the moment when we decide to change the rules of the game against Hizbollah and Lebanon", he said in a statement from his office.

"In a full-scale war, Hizbollah will be destroyed and Lebanon will be severely affected", the statement continued.

Subsequently, the Israeli military announced that an operational plan for an offensive in Lebanon had been approved. No further details have been disclosed.

The escalation comes as an American envoy, Amos Hochstein, is visiting Lebanon to try to de-escalate the conflict.

It is in everyone's interest to reach a swift and diplomatic solution – it is both possible and urgent, he said.

Since 7 October, clashes have been ongoing almost daily in the border area between Lebanon and Israel. Hizbollah claimed last week that it had carried out more than 2,100 military operations against Israel since then. In Lebanon, at least 473 people have been killed, including 92 civilians, according to AFP's tally. Israeli authorities report that at least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed.
