Fair wind for several Swedish sailors

The Swedish pair Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson had a strong day during the Olympic Games sailing events in Marseille. They secured two top placements and are closing in on the leading Japan.

The Swedish duo Dahlberg/Karlsson finished first and second in the 470 two-man sailing event on Saturday.

Good news for the Swedes was also that Japan, which had sailed incredibly strongly initially during the Olympic Games, ended up in sixth place in the last race of the day. Karlsson/Dahlberg are now in third place overall, five points behind the Japanese and one point behind Austria.

Six races remain before a potential medal race next week, where the top ten qualify. Previously, Lovisa Karlsson has said that the pair is aiming for gold in the tricky bay on the Riviera.

Also, flag bearer Josefin Olsson won one of her races in the Ilca 6 class, previously laser radial, on Saturday. She led almost from start to finish. But in the other two sailings, she struggled and is now in 15th place overall.

She has four races left in the qualifying round in the coming days, before the medal race begins.

Otherwise, the Swedish duo Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson have entered the Olympic Games. They sailed three races on Saturday in the Nacra 17 catamaran class and delivered the placing series 13–18–10, which the Swedish pair is probably not too pleased with. They will sail a total of twelve races in the qualifying round before the medal competition. Again, only the top ten will make it through.

Overall, Järudd/Jonsson are currently in 14th place.
