Fans defy fear as Swift plays in London

The pressure is still enormous when Taylor Swift concludes her tour, despite the terror plans against her performances in Vienna. Fans are flocking to London – where security has been significantly increased.

Earlier concerts, more ticket checks, a greater police presence, and a ban on "swifties" staying outside Wembley Stadium in London without a ticket – these are some of the security measures that have been implemented ahead of Taylor Swift's last five concerts in London, which conclude the European leg of the "Eras" tour. Only minimal handbags are allowed.

Last week, all three of the star's performances in Vienna were cancelled after a planned terrorist attack was revealed and stopped, where the perpetrators, with the help of knives and homemade explosives, "planned to kill as many people as possible".

Remember Manchester

Now Swift is performing for the first time since then. And London's mayor Sadiq Khan promises that everything has been done for security.

We have enormous experience in monitoring these events, we never become complacent, and we drew many lessons from the horrific Manchester Arena attack, says Khan, referring to the terrorist attack on Ariana Grande's concert in 2017, where 22 people were killed.

Thousands of Pounds

The concerts are sold out and tickets are being offered for thousands of pounds on unofficial sites. Many fans also say they refuse to be intimidated. Like Meagan Berneaud from Ohio, who has connected swifties who missed the concerts in Austria with fans who are willing to give away or sell tickets. She herself is also planning to go.

I just have to tell myself not to live in fear. I have to trust that the police are doing their best to keep us safe.

Another fan, Tram, thinks about the attack on Bataclan in Paris in 2015:

"Then we saw hundreds of people go out on the streets to show that they were not afraid. I believe we will see that also in London. As Taylor says, we are 'fearless'".
