Large parts of the building have been filled with smoke and residents have been evacuated from balconies with the help of turntable ladders.

What has happened is that a fire has broken out in the basement, which has then spread to two stairwells. We have extinguished most of the fire now, says Mikael Lundqvist, duty officer at the rescue service.

However, the fire has not yet spread to the apartments.

Several places

The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into aggravated arson.

According to the rescue service, there are several fire sources in the building. It has therefore started burning in several places at the same time. The likelihood of it being intentional increases with the number of places it has burned, says Mats Eriksson, the police's press spokesperson.

No one has been arrested.

The alarm came at 11.22. The entire house with three entrances and four floors is being evacuated, according to the rescue service.

The evacuation is ongoing and there are many people on site, says Mikael Lundqvist.

Help at school

According to the police, 10-15 people have needed care, either on site or at a healthcare facility. Three of these have been taken to hospital, two of whom were initially assessed as being seriously injured.

The municipality has opened Ronnaskolan where the evacuees can receive help.

The municipality's crisis support group is activated. This means that social services are on site and offering things like clothing and conversation support, says Åsa Zazi, the municipality's press officer.
