The Sweden Democrats' party leader Jimmie Åkesson has since the 2022 election been present at six of 80 votes in the Riksdag. This means that he is the party leader with the highest absence in the Riksdag, reports SVT.
Party leaders who do not hold ministerial posts do not sit in the Riksdag, but Åkesson's 92 percent absence can be compared to Magdalena Andersson (S) who has a 59 percent absence from votes. Muharrem Demirok has a 43 percent absence and the Green Party's spokespersons Daniel Helldén and Amanda Lind have 24 and 22 percent absence, respectively, during the time they were spokespersons.
In a comment to SVT, the Sweden Democrats write that Jimmie Åkesson as party leader has much else he needs to attend to.
"We are a team, where we all cooperate and cover for each other. To be effective in our work requires flexibility around votes, especially for the party leader who alone bears several other important commitments for the party."
