Anouk Aimée has passed away, reports her manager to the news agency AFP. The French film star died on Tuesday at the age of 92.
It was in Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" opposite Anita Ekberg that Anouk Aimée got her breakthrough on the big screen in 1960. With Fellini, she also made the film "8 1/2" and in between "Lola", which also became a success, directed by Jacques Demy.
Her most enduring role was as Anne in "A Man and a Woman" by director Claude Lelouch from 1966. A role she would return to 53 years later. The film received the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Anouk Aimée reprised the role in 1986 in the sequel "A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later" and again in "The Best Years of a Life", 2019. In each film opposite the French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant. The last film in the trilogy was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and became Anouk Aimée's final role.
Anouk Aimée made her film debut at the age of 14 and was primarily active in her home country and in the rest of Europe. One of her last performances was in 1994 in Robert Altman's fashion satire "Prêt-a-porter".
