Representatives from the rival Palestinian movements Hamas and Fatah have agreed to meet in Beijing this month, according to a high-ranking official in Fatah to the news agency AFP.

The terrorist-listed Hamas delegation is said to be led by its Qatar-based political leader Ismail Haniya, while Fatah's delegation will be led by the movement's vice chairman Mahmoud al-Aloul. The purpose is reportedly to achieve "reconciliation" between the movements.

The two groups have been at odds with each other since Hamas ousted Fatah from the Gaza Strip following the deadly clashes that followed Hamas' victory in the 2006 election.

The Fatah movement controls the Palestinian authority, which has partial administrative control over the West Bank.

China hosted a meeting between the groups in April. Another meeting between the groups was planned for June, but was postponed. Several previous reconciliation attempts between Hamas and Fatah have failed.
