The 33-year-old Swede finished 15th in the qualifying round and is through to the semifinals, which, like the final, will be decided on Thursday. The top 20 out of 24 starters advanced from the qualifying round.
Still, it's completely okay. It feels good to show that I have the speed in me to be up there and fight. I'll take that with me. And making it through was the main goal, says Isak Öhrström.
Öhrström's second attempt was actually the best, but a small mistake on the 19th gate stopped him from finishing fourth in the attempts.
It was a bit too tight. You have to take each gate with your whole head and if you've missed a little, you get 50 seconds added and then it's game over, says Öhrström.
This is Öhrström's second Olympic Games. In Rio eight years ago, he finished 15th.
Going into Thursday's semi- and final paddling events, he has high hopes and believes he can be in the mix for an Olympic medal – which would be Sweden's first in the sport.
If everything goes my way, I think so, but it also depends on how the others paddle.
