Over 700 people arrested in connection with demonstrations after the election in Venezuela have been taken to high-security prisons, reports a human rights organization on Saturday.

The detainees, who were being held at police stations around the country, are said to have been transferred to the two notorious facilities – Tocuyito and Tocoron – which were previously controlled by gang criminals, during the past week.

The information comes from the Venezuelan Prison Observatory, which works to promote the rights of inmates in the country, and also claims that relatives of the detainees have not been informed about the transfer.

Both the incumbent President Nicolás Maduro and the opposition have declared themselves winners after the election on July 28, and the unrest that has followed has so far claimed 25 lives. Almost 200 people have been injured and over 2,400 have been arrested.

Maduro's claim to election victory has been questioned by several Latin American countries, the US, and the EU.
