Inspired by a Scottish philosopher of the 18th century and the curse of misinformation of today, author Suzanne Collins returns to the post-apocalyptic country of Panem in a new "Hunger Games" novel.

"Sunrise on the reaping" is the title of the fifth volume of Collins' dystopian, yet highly successful series, and the book release is planned for March 18, 2025.

The new book takes place after the conclusion of the 75th Hunger Games and unfolds 24 years before the first "Hunger Games" novel, which was published in 2008 – and 40 years after Collins' latest book, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes".

Motion picture company Lionsgate, which is behind the film adaptations of all four previous "Hunger Games" novels, announces today that "Sunrise on the reaping" will have a cinematic premiere on November 20, 2026. The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who also directed all but the first "Hunger Games" film.

Suzanne Collins has been inspired by Greek mythology and Roman gladiatorial games in her previous books, but in the upcoming novel, she cites the Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume.

The story also addresses the presence of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative.

The four first "Hunger Games" novels have sold over 100 million copies and have been translated into 52 languages. The films have grossed nearly thirty billion dollars worldwide.
