I the last league match of the season, bad luck was ahead of Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini. The Italian national team defender injured his left knee and will now miss the European Football Championship in Germany.
20-year-old Scalvini is the second defender, after Francesco Acerbi, who is forced to decline Italy's EM squad due to injury. He is replaced by Juventus' Federico Gatti.
Atalanta and Fiorentina concluded the Serie A season on Sunday, with a match that had been postponed since Fiorentina's club director Giuseppe "Joe" Barone passed away in March. Scalvini scored a goal before he was substituted out in the 2-3 loss.
EM, where Italy is the reigning champion, begins on June 14.
