In a letter to Trump's campaign team, Isaac Hayes III writes that they will sue Trump if he continues to use the Stax duo's hit song, which was written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter in 1966.
"Donald Trump represents the worst possible when it comes to dignity and finesse, with his history of racist rhetoric and assaults on women," the son writes.
The family states in the letter that they have previously asked Trump to stop using the song, but to no avail. With reference to music rights, the family now wants 3 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 31 million kronor, for the occasions when the song has been played during campaign meetings between 2022 and 2024.
If their demands are not met, the family also plans to demand 150,000 dollars, equivalent to approximately 1.57 million kronor, for each time the song is used during a campaign meeting going forward.
Even songwriter David Porter writes that he has never given his permission to Trump to play "Hold on, I'm coming". Hayes and Porter wrote the classic hit together during their time as regular songwriters for Stax Records in Memphis.
