The author Kurt Salomonson has passed away at the age of 94, reports Västerbottens-Kuriren, where he was described as "the last autodidact" by cultural journalist Gunnar Balgård on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Born in Hjoggböle in 1929, Kurt Salomonson worked in the mine in Laisvall and Perhyttan, as well as a journalist at Norran and the newspaper Arbetaren.
After his debut in 1955 with "Hungerdansen", he gained recognition for his portrayals of workers in "The Man Outside" (1958), "The Betrayal" (1959), and "The Parting of the Ways" (1962). Salomonson criticised not only the exploitation of workers but also the workers themselves for what he perceived as a reluctance to take responsibility.
He had high ambitions for his writing, he was a stormer, and wanted to depict conditions and malconditions throughout society, says literature professor Anders Öhman to VK.
In 1981, Salomonson published travelogues together with Jan Fogelbäck in "Most Beautiful on Earth is Kvikkjokk in the Spring".
