Last-Second Winner Keeps CL Dream Alive

The Champions League seemed increasingly distant for Kristianstad. But in the match's last second, Clare Polkinghorne lifted off the ground and headed in the winning goal, 1-0 in the Damallsvenskan derby against Vittsjö. We still have the chance, says the matchwinner about the top struggle.

There was no beauty to behold at Vittsjö IP, and for a long time, the two Skåne teams seemed to be heading for their second goalless draw of the season.

Then, visiting Kristianstad managed to scrape together a final corner, and on Gudný Árnadóttir's cross, Clare Polkinghorne reached the highest and headed in 1–0.

It was important for us to take three points today. It was a half-hearted match, we didn't get to as many situations as we had hoped for. But we solved it through a set piece in the end, it was nice, says Polkinghorne, who left Vittsjö just before this season, to Viaplay.

These were three necessary points if Kristianstad is to have a reasonable chance of reaching the top three this season and thus qualifying for next year's Champions League.

Six rounds remain, and Kristianstad has a six-point deficit to third-placed Hammarby and one more to Häcken in second place.

We still have a chance, says Clare Polkinghorne.
