Hammarby sank Blåvitt - in the 101st minute

The clock had ticked up to over 100 minutes of playing time. Then Jusef Erabi broke the deadlock and secured victory for Hammarby, 1–0 against IFK Göteborg. It's tough to swallow, says IFK coach Stefan Billborn to Max.

Hammarby had the chance to climb to second place in the table, after Djurgården's big loss to Malmö FF earlier on Sunday.

But it was incredibly far-fetched for the Stockholm team, which has had a hard time against IFK Göteborg this season.

It wasn't until over ten minutes into extra time – after a somewhat chaotic second half – that substitute Montader Madjed found an opening and Jusef Erabi scored.

This meant three points for Hammarby and a crucial point loss for IFK Göteborg, which had to play the last quarter with one man down.

It's a pretty wild football match, but I think we had slightly better chances in the first half. The second half becomes more of a slugfest, says Stefan Billborn.

It suits us. But when we get a player sent off, it becomes clearly a bit tricky.

Sunday's match was eventful – but mostly due to the tense atmosphere and a string of yellow cards in the second half.

The scoring chances were relatively few and far between.

Jusef Erabi did nod the ball against the post after just over two minutes. But it wasn't until nearly 100 minutes later that Hammarby's forward and his teammates could celebrate a goal.

Tough season

IFK Göteborg has had a tough season so far – both before and after the coaching change in the summer.

Stefan Billborn and his assistant coach Joachim Björklund took over IFK Göteborg at the end of June. The result since then: one win, four draws, and four losses.

We're fighting as a team, no one is giving up. But we can't quite get it to come together, says Billborn to Max.

Comeback – and sent off

After a goalless first half, the second half became chaotic, with several injuries and a long string of warnings.

In the final minutes, IFK Göteborg's Hussein Carneil made a comeback after a long injury absence – but just a few minutes later, the 22-year-old had to leave the pitch again after receiving a red card.

As the chaotic second half drew to a close, at least twelve minutes of extra time were announced to make up for all the interruptions.

With one man more, Hammarby established some pressure on the IFK Göteborg goal – but 0–0 held, until Erabi made sure it became three points and at least some continued pressure on table leaders Malmö FF.
