Lena Dunham drops out of the film about the American doll Polly Pocket.
It was after the success of Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" film last year that the toy company Mattel wanted to invest in more films about dolls. Then it was clear that Dunham would direct the film about Polly Pocket – which is a toy consisting of a small doll in a box that can be opened. The lead role is to be played by Lily Collins from the TV series "Emily in Paris".
But in an interview with The New Yorker, Dunham now says that she is dropping out of the project, despite having written the script for three years. She also compares with the successful film "Barbie":
I felt that if I couldn't do it like that film, I shouldn't do it at all. The next film I make has to be a film that only I can make. And I feel that other people can make "Polly Pocket", she says to the magazine.
