Already in April, it was announced that the literacy-promoting organization Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) would receive the Almapris for its innovative work with Australia's indigenous people.

Last night, representatives of organizations received the award from Crown Princess Victoria's hand at a ceremony at the Concert Hall in Stockholm.

ILF's goal is to provide children from Australia's indigenous people with access to good literature to increase reading and literacy. Australia has at least 250 different indigenous languages and many dialects, and the organization emphasizes the importance of indigenous people's own languages and stories.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, known as the Almapris, was established in 2002 by the Swedish government. Every year, a person or organization that contributes to the importance of literature for children and young people is awarded a prize sum of five million Swedish kronor.
