It was a mathematical calculation that was required to determine whether the Swedish women's volleyball team would make it to the playoffs in the Golden League or not. In the end, it was Sweden, not Ukraine, that secured the fourth and final spot in the playoffs.

Sweden had won both of its two matches against Slovakia and Slovenia with a score of 3–0. Despite this, they did not have the advancement in their own hands.

Ukraine needed to lose Sunday's match against Belgium with a score of 1–3 or 0–3 for Sweden to overtake them in the table. And so it was: a 1–3 loss.

Since Sweden and Ukraine have the same number of wins and points, the "set quotient", with the number of won sets divided by the number of lost sets, was used to decide. Sweden's set quotient of 1.5 trumped Ukraine's 1.44.

Sweden will face Belgium in the semifinals on June 15. In the other semifinal, the host nation Czech Republic will meet Romania.
