The American sprinter Noah Lyles is in top form a week before the Olympics. In the last Diamond League competition before the games, he achieved 9.81 seconds on the 100 meters, which meant a new personal record.

I could have had a better start, he says after the race according to AP.

The American fell behind at the start but sprinted past his competitors at the end of the race at London Stadium.

I've had clearly better starts in training. I wanted under 9.80, but I'll take a personal record every day, he says according to AP.

It was a strong field where the five best runners finished in under ten seconds. Akani Simbine finished second with 9.86 and Letsile Tebogo third with 9.88.

Noah Lyles is the reigning World Champion on both 100 and 200 meters and also has a bronze on 200 meters from the Olympics in Tokyo.

The 27-year-old doesn't hide his expectations ahead of the games in Paris.

I'm going to win. That's what I always do, he says according to AP.
