Fraud with time reporting, employees forced to work more hours than legally allowed, and users not receiving the help they are entitled to.

These are some of the deficiencies that have led municipalities to terminate contracts with private home care companies in recent years, reports Municipal Worker.

The newspaper has examined the 27 municipalities with the largest proportion of private home care in 2022. Two-thirds of the municipalities have terminated or cancelled contracts with home care companies due to various deficiencies over the past ten years.

In total, this involves approximately 120 terminated contracts in the 18 municipalities.

Christina Kiernan, coordinator against welfare crime at the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), is critical that the problems are not given more attention.

We've been talking about fraud and irregularities for 30 years, certainly more – but it's important to emphasize that what we're talking about here is crime, she says to Municipal Worker.
