"It is my opinion that the same perpetrators are behind these two shootings. In both cases, completely innocent people have been affected, and during the investigation, we have not found any connections to gang criminality regarding any of the victims," says prosecutor Åsa Valter, who on Tuesday brought charges against five men and two women, according to a press release.
The shootings occurred on September 26 and 27 last year.
First, a man is shot in his villa in Åkersberga north of Stockholm. In connection with this, a fire is also set in his home. The man suffers very serious injuries but manages to put out the fire and survives.
Registered at the address
A person who can be linked to the ongoing gang war in the Stockholm area is registered at his address. However, there is nothing to suggest that he has any connection to the man who was shot.
The next day, a group of men who are grilling late in the evening on an inner courtyard in Jordbro south of Stockholm are shot at. A 23-year-old man is hit by a bullet and dies, and another person is seriously injured.
The getaway car crashed
The shots are said to have come from within a car, and the perpetrators flee the scene quickly – but during the escape, they crash into a row house. Automatic weapons and a phone are later found in the car. The traces from there lead to the arrest of individuals just ten hours later, according to the prosecutor for Aftonbladet.
The shootings occurred when gang violence was raging at its worst in Sweden last autumn. On the same night, two more deadly gang-related incidents occurred.
To Aftonbladet, the prosecutor says that the motive behind the shooting at the barbecue may have been to "shoot at anyone in Jordbro"
Seven people, five men and two women, are charged with involvement in the shootings in Åkersberga and Jordbro on September 26 and 27 last year.
Two 23-year-old men are charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, gross weapons offense in two cases, and arson. Two men, 20 and 22 years old, and a 22-year-old woman are charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
A 21-year-old man is charged with accessory to murder and two counts of accessory to attempted murder. A 24-year-old woman is charged with gross weapons offense and gross protection of a criminal.
