Möregårdh celebrated at home in Eslöv: "Fantastic"

Truls Möregårdh is received as a hero when he returns home to Eslöv after the great successes in the Olympic Games in Paris, where he won silver in both singles and team competitions. From the stage, he is appointed both a lovely lad and a Scanian Eiffel Tower – and an honorary citizen of Eslöv.

You are completely wonderful who have come here. Thanks for all the support, says Truls Möregårdh to the crowd on Stora torg.

"Eslöv loves Truls" it says on many shirts and the children are waving Swedish flags.

This is what he has been looking forward to after the extreme life in an Olympic Games bubble where he has performed at the top. The best thing about Eslöv is the community spirit, thinks Truls Möregårdh.

It's just a matter of looking at how many come to pay tribute to someone who has done well in a sport, it's fantastic that they engage so much in it. I have seen cakes with my name on and all sorts of things, so it means a lot that a municipality wants to do so much for one.

Lamis al-Omar is not really interested in sports, but Truls she has followed together with her sons Owais, 8 years old, and Faiad, 11. Now both want to play table tennis.

We live here in Sweden and we want to celebrate with other Swedes. We are very happy, says Lamis al-Omar.

The town festival ends with a selfie rally, where everyone who wants can climb up into a giant pink chair and get a picture together with the Olympic star.

Now he will get to rest for a while – he would need to sleep twelve hours a day to recover, he says. Far away on the horizon, the European Championship in Austria awaits in the autumn.

I'm really not thinking about that competition right now and I'm taking it as it comes and I'm super happy about what has happened, says Truls Möregårdh.
