Nine people have been arrested following a demonstration against the Israeli government in Jerusalem on Monday evening, reports Reuters. Three people were also injured in clashes with police, writes Haaretz.
Thousands of Israelis gathered to express their discontent with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, as an agreement to free hostages has yet to be reached – and to demand new elections.
According to Reuters, the demonstration turned violent during the evening, as some protesters broke ranks and attempted to breach police barriers near Netanyahu's residence. At one point, a fire was lit on the street and police used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.
The demonstrations against Benjamin Netanyahu's rule, which have been ongoing for months in Israel, are expected to intensify in the coming days after the country's war cabinet was dissolved on Monday.
