German police have arrested a 15-year-old, suspected of planning an anti-Semitic act in western Germany. The arrest took place as early as September, but was not made public until Thursday by prosecutors in Düsseldorf.
The suspect had been arrested once before, in August, after police received intelligence about his activities, according to German media. He was released, but was arrested again after police discovered a phone conversation he had with an Islamist extremist abroad. The conversation mentioned a knife attack, according to media reports. The target was said to be festivals and Jewish gatherings. The arrested individual is also said to have appeared in video clips with flags from the terrorist organization IS.
Germany has tightened security measures following the deadly knife attack in Solingen on August 30, when three people were killed. A 26-year-old Syrian surrendered to the police the day after the attack, which IS later claimed responsibility for.
