The American media outlets Axios and The New York Times write that one of them was the one assumed to succeed the deceased former leader Hassan Nasrallah, namely Hashem Safieddine.

There is no confirmation whether the intended successor Safieddine (sometimes spelled Safi al-Din) was there or if he was killed in the event. Nasrallah, who led the extremist Islamist movement, was killed in a similar raid against a bunker under a residential area in Beirut last week.
