It looked for a long time as if Nigeria would get its third Swedish national team captain of all time (Lars Lagerbäck, men 2010 and Thomas Dennerby, women 2019) in the form of Janne Andersson.
The Swede himself confirmed that he had "had a dialogue" about the national team captain job in the country.

But there will be no move to "The Super Eagles" for the former Swedish national team captain. Instead, the association chose the German route.
On Tuesday, the association presented its new head coach, Bruno Labbadia from Germany.
The 58-year-old has coached several clubs in the German top league, Bundesliga. Most recently, he comes from the job in Stuttgart, where he was head coach for a few months during the 2022/23 season.
Janne Andersson thus remains without a new assignment within world football, after finishing as Swedish national team captain last year.
